A man is in serious condition after a shooting early Saturday outside an apartment complex in northeast Canton, police said.

Officers were in the area of the 800 block of Marion Motley Avenue NE early Saturday when they were alerted to gunfire nearby. Dispatchers reported roughly 15 shots had been fired near the Hillview Apartments at 1866 6th St. NE.

When police arrived, they found Ivan Hunter lying on the ground in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities said he was motionless and bleeding heavily from injuries to his chest, back and legs.

Officers immediately began life-saving measures, including applying chest seals, placing a tourniquet and starting CPR. Hunter was taken by paramedics to a hospital, where he remained in serious condition.

Investigators located numerous shell casings and bullet fragments in the parking lot. Police also found a bullet hole in a glass entrance door to the apartment building and another in the door of an apartment unit, indicating some rounds struck the building.

A witness reported seeing a man in a gray hoodie leave the area after the gunfire and head toward 6th Street NE. No arrests have been announced.

The shooting remains under investigation.
