A 25-year-old man was fatally shot early Monday while sitting inside a vehicle on Ray Street, according to the Akron Police Department.
Officers responded to the 1000 block of Ray Street at approximately 2:14 a.m. Sept. 28 following reports of a shooting.
Police said the victim was sitting inside a vehicle with other people when an unknown person approached and fired multiple rounds. The man was struck several times in the torso and upper body.
Officers provided emergency aid, including applying a chest seal and tourniquet, until Akron Fire Department paramedics arrived. The victim was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General, where he was later pronounced dead.
The victim’s identity has not been released.
Detectives with the department’s Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded to investigate. Several shell casings were recovered, and investigators canvassed the area for witnesses and surveillance footage.
No arrests have been announced. Police said investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and identify the person responsible.
