10-year-old boy was hospitalized Sunday afternoon after being shot in the face in Akron, police said.
According to Akron police, officers responded to the 400 block of Palmetto Avenue around 12:32 p.m. Sept. 28 after receiving reports of a shooting. Prior to their arrival, police said the boy left the scene and walked to Akron Fire Department Station 13 on Brown Street.
When officers arrived, they found the child with a gunshot wound to his face. Paramedics treated him at the fire station before transporting him to Akron Children’s Hospital. His injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
Police recovered a firearm at the scene. Detectives are investigating the circumstances and said the shooting may have been accidental and self-inflicted.
