A two-vehicle crash in Tuscarawas County left one person dead and three others injured Monday afternoon, authorities said.
The crash happened around 1:13 p.m. on April 6 on Stonecreek Road (County Road 21), just north of Circle Drive in York Township, according to the New Philadelphia post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Investigators said a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis was traveling southbound when it crossed left of center and struck a northbound 2012 Toyota Highlander head-on. The Highlander then traveled off the right side of the road and hit a guardrail.
The driver of the Grand Marquis, Dalton J. Miller, 24, of West Lafayette, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office.
A passenger in the Grand Marquis, Emily A. Harford, 21, also of West Lafayette, was transported by Smith Ambulance to Mercy Hospital with injuries. Authorities said both occupants of the vehicle were wearing seat belts.
The Highlander was driven by Alyssa Maculaitis, 33, of New Philadelphia. She was taken by Smith Ambulance to Akron General Hospital. A 2-year-old child in the vehicle was treated at the scene and released to a family member. Officials said Maculaitis was wearing a seat belt and the child was secured in a safety seat.
Agencies assisting at the scene included the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, New Philadelphia Fire Department, York Township Fire Department, the coroner’s office, Smith Ambulance, Greg’s Towing and the Tuscarawas County Road and Bridge Department.
The crash remains under investigation.
