A former Archbishop Hoban High School teacher is facing multiple charges of sexual battery after a police investigation into alleged inappropriate conduct involving former students.

Chad Kendall, a former fine arts and performing arts teacher at the Catholic high school, was charged Aug. 1 with several counts of sexual battery. According to Akron Municipal Court records, a warrant has been issued for his arrest by the Akron Police Department.

Reports indicate the charges stem from alleged sexual relationships with two former Hoban students who were between the ages of 16 and 17 at the time. The school said the allegations do not involve any current students.

In a letter sent to Hoban families this week, school president Chris DiMauro said the allegations were reported to school administrators on June 9 by a third party. The claims, which had not previously been brought to the school’s attention, were immediately shared with Akron police.

“We are devastated and angry that the safety of our students, which is of the utmost importance, may have been violated by someone in a position of trust,” DiMauro wrote.

This is not the first time Kendall has faced legal trouble this year. In May, he was charged with first-degree misdemeanor assault in connection with an incident that reportedly took place on the school’s stage in March 2024, just weeks before the spring musical. He was placed on administrative leave shortly after those charges were filed.

Kendall was previously listed as a faculty member leading Hoban’s student theater productions.

The school said it is cooperating fully with law enforcement and urged anyone with information related to the investigation to contact Akron Police.
