Employee injured, suspect dead in Orrville Power Plant shooting

Authorities are investigating a shooting that occurred Thursday afternoon at the Orrville Power Plant, leaving one employee injured and the individual responsible dead, according to city officials.

The Orrville Police Department initially reported investigating an incident near Mineral Springs and North Vine Street. Police said at the time there was no threat to public safety and that additional information would be released as it became available.

Later Thursday, the City of Orrville confirmed the incident was a shooting at the Orrville Power Plant. First responders immediately secured the scene, and officials reiterated there was no ongoing threat to the public.

One employee was injured in the shooting. Officials did not release details on the severity of the injuries. Authorities said the individual responsible for the shooting is deceased.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured employee and his family,” Mayor Matt Plybon said in a statement, calling the incident a tragic event.

The shooting remains under active investigation. Orrville police are working with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
