A longtime Canton police officer died Monday morning after being involved in a crash on his way to work, according to the Canton Police Department.
Lt. Dennis Garren said the crash occurred around 6:53 a.m. in the 800 block of Cherry Avenue SE. Officer Dave Wolgamott was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Wolgamott joined the Canton Police Department on August 22, 2006, and served in the patrol division, where he was assigned to the department’s jail.
“It is a very sad day here at CPD,” Garren said. “Dave will be sorely missed.”
The crash remains under investigation.
