Authorities are investigating after a body was discovered Wednesday afternoon near railroad tracks in Carroll County.
Sheriff Calvin Graham said deputies were called to the area along Route 171, about 200 feet north of the rail gates between state Route 43 (Canton Road NW) and Brenner Road NE/Macaw Road. A person was found lying off the side of the tracks.
Graham said a train was not involved in the death. The individual, whose name has not yet been released, had been released from the Carroll County jail on Monday.
Based on the condition of the scene, Graham suggested the body may have been there for a couple of days.
The remains were transported to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. Graham said no foul play is suspected, but investigators believe alcohol may have contributed to the death.
The sheriff’s office continues to investigate.
