The Stark County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound following a shooting in Plain Township on Wednesday.

Deputies say the suspected shooter was Rodney Boley, 35, of Canton.

The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 4100 block of Orchard Dale Drive NW. When deputies arrived, they found Boley dead inside the apartment.

The female victim, who had managed to escape, was taken to Aultman Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities said Thursday that she is now in stable condition.

A child who was also inside the apartment during the shooting was not injured and was able to escape to a neighboring apartment. The child has since been reunited with family members.

The Stark County Metro Task Force, Canton Regional SWAT, FBI, Plain Township Fire Department, and the Stark County Coroner’s Office all assisted at the scene.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation.
