Police are investigating a vandalism and breaking-and-entering incident that caused more than $100,000 in damage at a construction site in Hall of Fame Village, authorities said.
Officers with the Canton Police Department were dispatched around 6:56 a.m. March 26 to 2626 Fulton Road NW for a report of damaged property. An employee at the site told officers that unknown suspects broke into the building overnight.
According to the police report, the suspects are believed to have entered through an unlocked door between 6 p.m. March 25 and 6 a.m. March 26. Once inside, they allegedly used multiple scissor lifts to move throughout the building, causing widespread damage.
Investigators said construction materials, including nails and debris, were scattered throughout the site. Significant damage was reported on the second floor, where suspects appeared to have driven lifts into walls, causing punctures, gouges and structural damage. Additional damage was found on the first floor.
Police also observed fresh damage to concrete flooring and electrical equipment, including a housing unit that had been struck multiple times. Tire marks from the lifts were visible throughout the building.
Workers told officers the equipment appeared to have been moved extensively and possibly used to run over construction materials. A scissor lift was found stuck between a wall and metal housing, suggesting it had been abandoned during the incident.
An exterior door on the west side of the building was reportedly found unlocked when crews arrived, though it is typically secured.
A representative for the site said they will work with an insurance company to determine the full extent of the damage. Officials said surveillance footage from a third party is being sought as part of the investigation.
No suspects have been identified.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
