A motorcyclist was killed Friday night in a two-vehicle crash in Tuscarawas County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 9:15 p.m. on March 20 along South Wooster Avenue (U.S. 250) near 7th Street SW in the village of Strasburg.
Authorities said a 2020 Harley-Davidson Sportster Iron 883 motorcycle, operated by 38-year-old Nichole L. Vanmeter of Strasburg, was traveling northwest on South Wooster Avenue. A 2014 Toyota RAV4, driven by 24-year-old Benjamin Cookson of Akron, was attempting to make a left turn onto the roadway from a private driveway.
Investigators said the motorcycle overturned and struck the left side of the Toyota.
Vanmeter was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital. Cookson sustained possible injuries, according to the highway patrol.
Officials said impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash. Vanmeter was not wearing a helmet.
The Strasburg Police Department, Strasburg Fire Department and Finlayson’s Towing assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
