A 66-year-old man died following a motorcycle crash Saturday evening in Tuscarawas County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 5:05 p.m. on state Route 800 near Froman Hill Road in Fairfield Township. Authorities said a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, operated by Jack Lineberry of New Philadelphia, was traveling southbound when it encountered a southbound vehicle slowing to make a right turn.
Investigators said Lineberry swerved left of center to avoid the turning vehicle but traveled off the east side of the roadway and struck a guardrail.
Lineberry was transported by medical helicopter to Summa Health System’s Akron campus, where he later died from his injuries, according to the Summit County Coroner’s Office.
Responding agencies included Mineral-Sandy EMS, the Mineral City Fire Department, Smith Ambulance, MedFlight and Finlayson Towing.
Authorities said alcohol and drugs are believed to be factors in the crash. Lineberry was not wearing a helmet. The crash remains under investigation.
