A Canton Township man was arrested Tuesday after deputies say he stabbed both of his parents during a violent attack at a home on Carnwise Street SE.

Deputies with the Stark County Sheriff’s Office were called to the 600 block of Carnwise Street SE around 5:25 p.m. on Dec. 3 for reports of a stabbing. When they arrived, they found a 71-year-old woman and a 71-year-old man suffering from injuries.

Both victims were taken to Aultman Hospital by the Canton Township Fire Department. The sheriff’s office said the woman suffered life-threatening injuries but was listed in stable condition as of Wednesday. The man’s injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening, and he also remained hospitalized in stable condition.

Deputies arrested Joshua Lee Shaffer, 49, of Canton Township, at the scene. Investigators say Shaffer stabbed both victims, who are his parents.

Shaffer is charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of felonious assault, one count of disrupting public service, and two counts of domestic violence.

All charges were filed in Canton Municipal Court. The investigation remains ongoing.
