Teen dies after Bath Township Airbnb shooting that injured multiple juveniles, young adults

An 18-year-old man has died following a weekend shooting at an Airbnb rental home in Bath Township that also left several juveniles and young adults injured, according to the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The victim has been identified as Elijah Wells, of Akron. Authorities said Wells was attending a birthday party at a residence in the 900 block of Top O Hill Drive shortly after midnight on Nov. 2 when multiple shots were fired inside the home.

Wells was struck several times and transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center, where he died from his injuries at 12:48 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6. The Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide.

Bath Township Police Chief Vito Sinopoli said multiple people — a mix of juveniles and young adults — were struck by gunfire after a large group gathered for a party that had been promoted on social media. The conditions of the surviving victims have not been released.

Responding agencies included the Akron Police Department, Summit County Sheriff’s Office, Copley Police Department, Fairlawn Police Department, Richfield Village Police Department, and several area fire departments. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) is assisting with the investigation.

Chief Sinopoli said detectives continue to process evidence and determine what led to the shooting. No arrests have been announced.
