Nine juveniles were shot early Sunday morning at an Airbnb rental property in Bath Township after a large group gathered for a party that had been promoted on social media, according to police.

Bath Township Police Chief Vito Sinopoli confirmed that nine people were struck by gunfire when shots were fired just after midnight inside a home in the 900 block of Top O Hill Drive. The conditions of the victims have not yet been released.

Police said officers responded around 12:00 a.m. Sunday to reports of shots fired at the residence. A preliminary investigation indicates that a large number of juveniles arrived at the home in response to a social-media post advertising the party. An unknown suspect or suspects fired multiple rounds from one or more weapons inside the home, striking several victims before fleeing the scene.

Emergency personnel provided immediate life-saving assistance to the victims, who were taken to area hospitals for treatment.

Responding agencies included the Akron Police Department, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the Copley Police Department, the Fairlawn Police Department, the Richfield Village Police Department, and several area fire departments. The investigation is being assisted by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI).

Chief Sinopoli said the crime scene remains under investigation as detectives work to determine what led to the shooting and identify those responsible.
