The Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office says a person and a dog were found dead after a motor home caught fire late Friday morning on Von Kaenel Drive in Dover Township.
According to Sheriff Orvis L. Campbell, deputies and fire crews were dispatched around 11:38 a.m. after neighbors reported a motor home fully engulfed in flames and believed someone might be inside.
Fire departments from Dover, New Philadelphia, Strasburg, Bolivar, Mineral City and Sugarcreek responded, along with Smith Ambulance. Investigators from the sheriff’s office, the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the county coroner also assisted at the scene.
Once the fire was extinguished, investigators discovered the remains of one person and one canine inside the burned motor home. The Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office took custody of the body.
Authorities say the cause and origin of the fire have not yet been determined, though foul play is not suspected. The identity of the deceased will be released after it is confirmed by the coroner’s office, which will also determine the cause and manner of death.
The incident remains under investigation.
