UPDATE: The highway has reopened.

A stretch of Interstate 77 near the Ghent Road exit was shut down Thursday after a utility line fell across the roadway, causing traffic delays for drivers heading through Summit County.

Emergency crews responded after receiving reports of a possible live wire on the highway. Construction personnel were called to the scene to evaluate the situation.

Officials later confirmed the line was inactive and no longer carrying electricity. However, it remained on the pavement, prompting crews to begin cutting and removing it.

The incident appears to be affecting only the northbound lanes of I-77. Southbound traffic is currently moving, but delays may still impact drivers in the area.

No injuries have been reported, but motorists are advised to avoid the area or expect delays while cleanup continues.
