One person was injured early Tuesday morning in an apartment fire at a three-story building in Canton.
The Canton Fire Department was dispatched at 2:21 a.m. to 800 5th St. NW and arrived on scene at 2:26 a.m. to find residents evacuating the building, according to fire officials.
Firefighters entered the building and located a fire in a back room of a third-floor apartment. Crews quickly extinguished the flames, which were contained to the room of origin. The fire caused moderate damage to that room and minor water damage to the affected apartment and the units below it.
All other residents in unaffected apartments were able to return to their homes. One occupant from the apartment where the fire began was transported to Aultman Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation. Estimated damages are $5,000 to the structure and $2,000 to contents.
