Franco Harris, an NFL Hall of Fame running back for the Steelers, has died at the age of 72.
Harris is most known for “The Immaculate Reception,” which is considered one of the most iconic plays in NFL history.
Harris’ son Dok told The Associated Press his father passed away overnight. No cause of death has been provided.
The 50th anniversary of his iconic play is on Friday and Pittsburgh was scheduled to retire his No. 32 jersey during a halftime ceremony Saturday night at halftime against the Raiders.
Harris was a four-time Super Champion with the Steelers and he accumulated over 12,000 yards in his career.
In 2020, the Immaculate Reception was voted the greatest play in NFL history.
