A 33-year-old Massillon woman has been arrested and charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash that involved a pedestrian earlier this month in Perry Township.

The Perry Township Police Department announced that Catherine B. Kovach, 33, of Massillon, has been arrested following an investigation into the Oct. 15 crash near the intersection of Genoa Avenue SW and 13th Street SW.

Kovach has been charged with stopping after an accident, a fifth-degree felony under Ohio law.

The arrest comes one week after the crash and follows an Oct. 16 announcement from Perry Township police confirming that investigators had identified both the vehicle involved and a suspect.

At that time, police said charges would be filed through Massillon Municipal Court but did not publicly identify the suspect.

In the Oct. 16 release, Police Chief Bryan Taylor thanked members of the community for providing information that assisted investigators in identifying the vehicle and suspect.

Police also expressed concern for the pedestrian who was struck and the individual’s family.

Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the collision or the extent of the pedestrian’s injuries.
