North Canton police are investigating a shooting that left a juvenile hospitalized with a gunshot wound to his hand early Thursday morning, prompting authorities to execute a search warrant at a residence.
According to the North Canton Police Department, officers responded to a residence in the 1000 block of Liberty Lane Avenue NW at approximately 3:39 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, after receiving a 911 call from a mother reporting that her son had been shot and needed medical assistance.
When officers arrived, they located the juvenile and his mother outside the residence. The juvenile was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
During the initial investigation, police said the juvenile provided limited information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Members of the Stark County Sheriff’s Office and a K-9 unit from the Canton Police Department assisted North Canton police with the search warrant.
Authorities have not disclosed what, if any, evidence was recovered during the search or whether the residence was the location of the shooting.
Police said investigators are continuing efforts to identify the individuals involved and determine exactly what led to the juvenile being shot.
Despite the ongoing investigation, authorities said there is currently no indication of an ongoing threat to the general public based on the information available.
The juvenile’s age and current condition have not been released.
The investigation remains ongoing.
