Gradall Industries LLC plans to eliminate 13 bargaining unit positions in September, citing weaker market demand and reduced production needs.
The company announced the workforce reduction in a notice to employees dated Aug. 26. The job cuts are scheduled to take effect Sept. 4.
Gradall said management has continued to evaluate market conditions and adjust operations as demand has softened.
“Due to continued softening in market demand and lower production requirements, we have made the difficult decision to reduce our workforce,” the company said in the notice.
The company said it considered alternatives and took other measures to manage changing business conditions before deciding to reduce staffing.
Gradall said the reductions will be handled in accordance with its collective bargaining agreement and applicable policies. Employees affected by the cuts will receive information about their individual employment status, benefits and any contractual provisions that apply to them.
Company President Michael Popovich acknowledged the effect the decision will have on workers and their families, while saying the reductions are necessary to keep the company competitive and provide long-term stability.
Gradall manufactures material-handling and excavating equipment. The company is headquartered in New Philadelphia.
The 13 positions are expected to be eliminated Sept. 4.
