One person has been arrested after authorities investigated a possible threat involving Knox School in the West Branch Local School District, according to Superintendent Matthew Manley.
Manley said he was contacted at approximately 7 p.m. Tuesday and asked to report to the Sebring Police Department regarding a possible threat involving the school building. The threat was verified in writing shortly afterward, prompting law enforcement to begin an investigation.
One person was apprehended and arrested shortly after midnight, Manley said. Authorities are continuing to investigate other possible leads.
The district did not release information about the identity of the person arrested or details about the nature of the alleged threat.
Manley said the investigation has involved the Sebring Police Department, FBI, Homeland Security and other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
Despite a suspect being in custody, district officials decided to keep Knox School closed Wednesday as the investigation continues.
All other West Branch schools will operate normally Wednesday. Middle school and high school activities also will continue as scheduled.
The district expects to provide families with another update late Wednesday afternoon regarding whether Knox School will reopen Thursday.
Knox School is home to West Branch Preschool, Small Wonders Daycare and classrooms serving Columbiana County Educational Service Center students.
