A 24-year-old Navarre woman was killed Tuesday morning after the electric bicycle she was riding collided with a commercial truck at a Stark County intersection, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at about 10:05 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the intersection of Main Street (U.S. Route 62) and Wooster Street in the Village of Navarre.
Troopers said a 2015 Freightliner commercial truck pulling a 2019 Wabash cargo trailer was traveling southbound on Main Street when it was involved in the crash.
Investigators said Veronica Gabriel Winland, 24, of Navarre, was riding a white Ozark Trail electric bicycle westbound on Wooster Street when she failed to yield at a red traffic signal and entered Main Street. The bicycle struck the cargo trailer being towed by the commercial truck, according to the patrol.
Winland suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported by Erie Valley EMS to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
The driver of the commercial truck was not injured.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Navarre Police Department, Erie Valley Fire Department and EMS, and Rupple’s Towing.
The crash remains under investigation.
