An adult man died after firefighters rescued him from a burning home Saturday night in Stow, authorities said.
The Stow Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 10:50 p.m. Saturday to a reported residential structure fire at a two-story, split-level home.
When crews arrived, they encountered heavy fire and smoke, with significant fire involvement at the rear of the residence. Firefighters forced entry through the front door and advanced a hose line into the home to begin suppression efforts.
During the initial interior search, firefighters located an adult man on the second floor. Crews quickly removed him from the home and began CPR and advanced life-support measures before transporting him to a local hospital.
Despite extensive lifesaving efforts, the man died from injuries sustained in the fire, according to the fire department.
Firefighters conducted primary, secondary and tertiary searches of the home and determined no additional victims were inside.
Crews from the Stow, Kent and Hudson fire departments worked together to extinguish the blaze, search the residence and secure utilities. Firefighters also extinguished multiple hot spots throughout the structure, including in the basement and garage.
During search operations, firefighters rescued two dogs from the home.
The Stow Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire in coordination with the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office and detectives from the Stow Police Department. Investigators remained on scene throughout the night.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
Agencies that responded included the Stow, Kent, Hudson and Munroe Falls fire departments, the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Stow Police Department.
The Stow Fire Department extended its condolences to the victim’s family and thanked all responding agencies for their assistance during the incident.
