A 26-year-old motorcyclist was killed Sunday morning in a three-vehicle crash in Tuscarawas County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 10:37 a.m. on State Route 39 at County Road 77 (Prysi Road) in Sugarcreek Township.
According to investigators, a black 2011 Kawasaki EX250 motorcycle was traveling westbound on State Route 39 while a red 2016 Mazda CX-5 was traveling eastbound. Troopers said the Mazda was making a left turn onto County Road 77 when the motorcycle struck the passenger side of the SUV.
After the initial impact, the motorcycle crossed left of center on State Route 39 and collided with the left front of a white 2023 Nissan Rogue that was traveling eastbound.
The 26-year-old motorcyclist, who was from Sugarcreek, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the rider was wearing a helmet and protective clothing at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Mazda, an 84-year-old Dover woman, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
The driver of the Nissan, a 49-year-old Coshocton woman, and her passengers were all wearing seat belts. None of the occupants of the SUV were injured.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s New Philadelphia Post is leading the investigation.
Agencies assisting at the scene included the Sugarcreek Police Department, Sugarcreek Fire Department, the Ohio Department of Transportation, Rosenberry Towing and the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office.
The crash remains under investigation.
In accordance with Jordan Miller News’ editorial policy, the identity of the deceased is being withheld for at least 12 hours following the crash to allow time for loved ones to be notified. The motorcyclist’s name will be released later this evening.
