A three-vehicle crash in Tuscarawas County sent four people to hospitals Friday, including one driver who suffered serious injuries, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at the intersection of state Route 39 and Schilling Hill Road in Sugar Creek Township.
Investigators said a 2024 Subaru Forester driven by 61-year-old Diann Funk of Pittsburgh was traveling north on Schilling Hill Road when she failed to yield at a stop sign and entered the intersection. The Subaru was struck by an eastbound 2023 Amazon Prime Peterbilt box truck driven by 25-year-old Javon Collins of Cleveland.
After the initial impact, the Amazon truck crossed into the westbound lane and struck a 2015 Kenworth straight truck driven by 36-year-old Kevin Costello of Canton.
Collins was flown by medical helicopter to Summa Health in Akron with serious injuries.
Funk and her passenger, 63-year-old Brenda Barnes of Pittsburgh, were taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Canton. Costello also was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital.
State Route 39 was closed in both directions for about 4½ hours while troopers investigated the crash and the Ohio Department of Transportation rerouted traffic.
Troopers said drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the crash. All three drivers and the Subaru passenger were wearing seat belts.
The crash remains under investigation.
