A 29-year-old Tuscarawas County woman was killed and two 6-year-old boys suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries in a head-on crash Monday morning, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 7:52 a.m. Nov. 2 on Edwards Ridge Road, south of Ridge Road, in Rush Township.

According to investigators, a 29-year-old woman from Gnadenhutten was driving a 2014 Ford Focus southbound on Edwards Ridge Road when her vehicle traveled left of center and collided head-on with a northbound 2020 Kia Telluride driven by a 43-year-old woman from Port Washington.

Each vehicle had a 6-year-old boy riding in the back seat.

The Highway Patrol said the Gnadenhutten woman was not wearing a seat belt and had to be extricated from her vehicle using mechanical equipment. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office.

The Port Washington woman, who was wearing a seat belt, also had to be extricated from her vehicle. She was transported to Union Hospital by Uhrichsville EMS. Her condition was not immediately available.

Both boys were properly restrained at the time of the crash, according to investigators. They were flown by medical helicopters to Akron Children’s Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Emergency crews from the Arrowhead Fire Department, Uhrichsville Fire Department and Rosenberry Township assisted at the scene, along with D&S Towing and the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office.

The Highway Patrol said drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be factors in the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The names are expected to be published late Monday evening.
