Carrollton 16-year-old dies in single-vehicle Carroll County crash

A 16-year-old passenger was killed and an 18-year-old driver was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash early Tuesday in Carroll County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at approximately 11:51 a.m. Tuesday on County Road 52 (Caddy Road), north of County Road 52A (Camay Road) in Orange Township.

Troopers said a 2007 Pontiac Torrent was traveling southwest on County Road 52 when it traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a ditch. The SUV then went airborne before crashing into a creek embankment.

The 18-year-old driver was transported to Mercy Hospital with serious injuries. The 16-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said neither occupant was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Carroll County Coroner’s Office, Dellroy Fire Department, Sherrodsville Fire Department, Leesville Fire Department, Bowerston Fire Department and Ruegg Brothers Towing.

The crash remains under investigation.
