A 16-year-old Canton boy has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man whose body was found Tuesday morning outside a vehicle in a southeast Canton apartment complex parking lot.

Police identified the victim Tuesday afternoon as Jordan A. Horton, 19, of Canton.

According to the Canton Police Department, officers and paramedics were dispatched around 7 a.m. Tuesday to the Skyline Terrace Apartments in the 900 block of Alan Page Drive SE after a 911 caller reported an unresponsive man lying near a vehicle in the parking lot.

When first responders arrived, they found Horton dead from a gunshot wound to the lower back.

Based on information gathered by Jordan Miller News, investigators believe the shooting occurred sometime late Monday night or early Tuesday morning, although Horton’s body was not discovered until daylight.

The 911 caller told dispatchers they found the man lying underneath or beside a white GMC Acadia. The caller said the victim appeared cold to the touch, had blood beneath him and was wearing only one shoe. The caller also said they did not know the victim.

A nearby resident told Jordan Miller News he believes he heard the shooting hours before the body was discovered.

The resident, who lives in an apartment overlooking the parking lot, said he heard a loud argument followed by several gunshots.

“I heard the pops and saw the flash from the gun,” he said. “I didn’t actually see anyone get shot.”

The witness said he then saw one person chasing another before police arrived shortly afterward.

Having lived in the neighborhood for about five years, he said the violence has left him concerned for his family’s safety.

“It’s getting scary,” he said, adding that he worries about his children because of recent crime in the area.

On Tuesday afternoon, Canton police announced investigators had obtained an arrest warrant charging Savheon R. Monroe, 16, of Canton, with murder in connection with Horton’s death.

Investigators also obtained an arrest warrant for Jason L. Singletary, 25, of Canton, charging him with complicity to commit murder in connection with the homicide.

According to police, Monroe also faces charges of discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises and felonious assault. Singletary is additionally charged with felonious assault and discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises.

Authorities said both suspects remain wanted.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Monroe or Singletary is asked to contact the Canton Communications Center at 330-649-5800, the Canton Police Detective Bureau at 330-489-3144 or the U.S. Marshals Task Force at 1-877-WANTED-2. The investigation remains ongoing.
