A 15-year-old boy died after a shooting Tuesday evening in Akron that also left a dog wounded, according to the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Authorities said the incident unfolded around 7:20 p.m. in the 1200 block of Packard Drive. Investigators said a friend had gone to visit the teen when the friend was attacked by a dog.

During the encounter, both the teenager and the dog were shot, officials said.

Akron police officers and EMS crews responded to the scene and transported the teen to Akron Children’s Hospital. He was pronounced dead shortly after 8 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released. Officials said additional information will be made public after an autopsy is completed and the family has been notified.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
