Three people were killed in an early Wednesday morning fire at a hotel in Wayne County, authorities said.
Deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched around 1:30 a.m. to the Econo Lodge on East Lincoln Way after receiving reports of a fire, Sheriff Thomas Ballinger said.
When deputies arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from the hotel and began helping evacuate the building until firefighters reached the scene.
Investigators said the fire originated in the southwest corner of the hotel, though the cause has not yet been determined.
Three people were pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not released the victims’ identities pending notification of their families.
No other injuries were reported.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the fire alongside other responding agencies. Additional information is expected as the investigation continues.
