A 77-year-old man from Canton was taken into custody Saturday night after police responded to reports of shots fired near a Washington Square restaurant.

According to the North Canton Police Department, officers received multiple 911 calls at approximately 9:44 p.m. on Aug. 23 regarding gunfire near the Lucky Star restaurant.

Police said officers arrived within minutes and quickly located the suspected shooter, identified as Robert Henderson, behind the wheel of a blue Ford Mustang. A long gun rifle was visible in the front passenger seat when officers approached, authorities said.

Henderson was taken into custody without incident and transported to the North Canton Police Department for processing.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a .357 revolver that matched the description of a handgun witnesses reported seeing at a nearby restaurant. No injuries were reported, and the scene was secured shortly after the arrest, police said.

Henderson was booked into the Stark County Jail on six counts of aggravated menacing, two counts of discharging a firearm, one count of vandalism, and one count of inducing panic.

Nothing further was immediately released by police.
