A 39-year-old man died Saturday morning in a suspected carbon monoxide incident at a property in the 500 block of Ruby Place in Canton.

The Canton Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 7:30 a.m. after another man called 911 to report an unresponsive person inside a structure.

When firefighters arrived, they detected elevated levels of carbon monoxide inside the building. Investigators believe a generator operating inside the structure was the source of the deadly carbon monoxide buildup.

The 39-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not said whether the structure was a home, garage or another type of building. The man’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of his family.

The incident remains under investigation, but officials believe carbon monoxide poisoning was the cause of death.
