A 26-year-old man is now facing murder and felonious assault charges following a shooting in New Philadelphia that left a 42-year-old man dead.
The suspect has been identified as Paul Wayne Kinlaw, 26. Jail records and Detective Chad Dorsey from New Philadelphia Police Department confirm charges of murder, an unclassified felony with two counts, and felonious assault, a second-degree felony.
The charges stem from a shooting Sunday afternoon, Sept. 20, inside a residence at 238 Second St. SW in New Philadelphia.
New Philadelphia Police Chief Tessa Pohovey previously identified the victim to Jordan Miller News as Christopher Damron, 42, of New Philadelphia. Damron died Sunday evening at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital after being transported from the scene.
Police said dispatchers initially received two 911 hang-up calls from the residence. Attempts to call back went unanswered before a third caller reported that a man had been shot. Officers responding to the home apprehended a man and provided medical assistance to Damron until the New Philadelphia Fire Department arrived. Both men were transported to the hospital.
Pohovey previously told Jordan Miller News the shooting followed a physical altercation between two men who knew each other. Both were injured during the confrontation, but Damron was the only person shot. Other witnesses were also inside the residence at the time.
Kinlaw remains in custody. The case remains under investigation.
