Perry Township police have identified a suspect in connection with the death of a 57-year-old man found deceased earlier this year at the White Oaks Apartment Complex in Massillon.

Officers responded to 2851 Lincoln Way E. on July 31 after David Ward’s son requested a welfare check due to a lack of communication. Ward was found dead on the bedroom floor of his residence.

The Stark County Coroner’s Office and Chief Investigator Harold Campbell assisted at the scene, and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) was called to process evidence. Campbell has ruled the death a homicide, saying ward was shot to death.

Investigators identified Myron E. Johnson, 43, as a suspect in Ward’s death. Johnson, who is already incarcerated for a parole violation, is facing active warrants for two counts of murder, one count of felonious assault, and one count of having weapons under disability.

The Perry Township Police Department thanked the Massillon Police Department, Ohio BCI, Stark County Coroner’s Office, and other agencies for their assistance in the investigation.

Authorities urged anyone with additional information to contact the department.

“Our condolences go out to Mr. Ward’s loved ones during this difficult time,” Chief Bryan D. Taylor said in a statement.
