Users of Meta’s social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram, found themselves abruptly disconnected from their accounts on Saturday morning, encountering “failure to load” error pages instead.

At approximately 10:13 a.m., DownDetector, a service that tracks website outages, recorded over 44,000 reports of disruptions in service, indicating a widespread issue affecting users globally.

Both the Facebook and Instagram apps were also reported to be experiencing difficulties, compounding the frustration for users attempting to access the platforms.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has yet to issue an official statement regarding the cause or expected duration of the outages.

The sudden disruption highlights the reliance of millions on these platforms for communication, news dissemination, and social interaction. Users have taken to alternative platforms, such as Twitter, to express their confusion and frustration over the unexpected downtime.

Further updates on the situation are awaited as Meta works to resolve the widespread outages impacting its social media ecosystem.
