The woman who was found dead in Canton Township has been identified, and police say she was wanted in connection to a murder.

The woman’s body was found at an abandoned property in the 3700 block of Georgetown Rd NE in Canton Township around 4 p.m. Wednesday after a passerby spotted her body, according to the Stark County Sheriff’s Office.

At first, Stark County officials hadn’t identified the body, but according to the Akron Police Department, the woman’s body was that of Suzanne Thomas, a suspect in a murder case they have been working on since November 30, 2022. Thomas was 33 and a resident of Canton.

According to Akron Police, they were dispatched to 1385 Brandon Avenue for a shooting back in November. When they arrived at the scene, they located Joseph Hall inside with a gunshot wound to the torso. He died at the scene.

Police say Thomas and Hall were dating and had been arguing that evening over a car. Police say Thomas was identified and determined to be involved in Thomas’ death – but didn’t specify her total involvement.

The actual shooter in the incident, Darrell Lee Antwan Buchanan, was arrested on December 13, 2022, and has been incarcerated in the Summit County Jail since then.

Akron Police obtained an arrest warrant for Thomas for her role in her boyfriend’s death, but they say she “was off the radar and was never captured.”

Thomas’ body was found dumped near a scrapyard in Canton Township Wednesday. Police say her cause of death is unknown and an autopsy is pending. Officials say Thomas’ death is an isolated incident.
