3-year-old hit and killed in Akron parking lot

The Akron Police Department is investigating an accident that left a three-year-old girl dead Monday afternoon.

Police say that a Honda CRV was stopped in a parking lot in the 1100 block of Palmetto Avenue when the young child ran into the parking lot and into the path of the moving vehicle. The vehicle struck the child, knocking her to the ground.

The three-year-old girl was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

According to investigators, the driver of the vehicle, a 42-year-old female, was unaware that she had struck the child.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factored in the incident, according to reports.

The incident remains under investigation.
