A three-vehicle accident left a local 79-year-old man dead Sunday afternoon.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (Canton Post), Edward Matako, 79, of Massillon, was operating a 2019 Lexus RX350 traveling westbound on State Route 172 (Lincoln Way) near Milepost 11 in Perry Township around 12:30 p.m.

Matako’s vehicle traveled left of center, striking a 2011 Nissan Murano head-on driven by Tanisha Barnett, 42, of Massillon.

Matako’s vehicle continued to travel across the road, striking a 2010 Ford Focus head-on driven by Kenneth Kurzen, 72, of Dalton.

Matako was transported to Aultman hospital by Perry Township EMS where he was pronounced dead.

All drivers were wearing seatbelts, according to OSHP. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected factors in this crash, which remains under investigation.
