14-year-old Wooster boy killed in Wayne County bicycle crash

A 14-year-old boy from Wooster has died after being struck by a pickup truck while riding a bicycle in Wayne County, authorities said.

The crash occurred late Friday afternoon on Smithville Western Road near Ogden Road in Chester Township. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the teenager was traveling eastbound on his bicycle when he was hit from behind by a pickup truck that was traveling in the same direction.

The boy was transported by ambulance to Wooster Community Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His identity has not been released.

Troopers said the pickup truck involved was a Ram 1500 driven by a 30-year-old man from Ashland. The driver was not injured and remained at the scene following the crash.

Investigators said the collision occurred shortly before 5:45 p.m. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been factors, though the incident remains under investigation.
