The incident stemmed over bad grades. Brenda Powell was on the phone with the University of Mount Union where her daughter was a student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sydney had been expelled from Mount Union but kept it a secret from her parents, staying in hotels for a week rather than telling her parents the truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Brenda was on the phone with university officials when they heard repeated thuds and screaming in the background. The call was disconnected. When a school official called back, Sydney answered the phone and pretended to be her mother. Officials called the police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prosecutors say she repeatedly beat her mom over the head with a cast-iron skillet then stabbed her nearly 30 times with a steak knife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sydney was sentenced to life in prison and will be eligible for parole after serving 15 years of her sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
