Two women died Sunday after they were found severely burned inside a Canton apartment, and police say both appeared to have suffered wounds unrelated to the fire.
Canton police officers responded around 10 a.m. to 712 Alan Page Drive SE at the request of the Canton Fire Department, which was already at the scene of a structure fire at Skyline Terrace Apartments.
While searching the building, firefighters found two women inside an apartment. Both suffered severe burns and appeared to have sustained additional wounds that were not associated with the fire, according to police.
The women, ages 42 and 31, were transported by Canton Fire Department medics to local hospitals, where they were pronounced dead.
Canton police detectives are investigating the deaths. Authorities have not released additional information about the nature of the women’s injuries or the circumstances surrounding the fire.
