A 64-year-old Dennison man was killed Tuesday evening after his pickup truck traveled off a roadway and struck a post and tree in Tuscarawas County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers from the New Philadelphia Post responded to the crash at approximately 7:39 p.m. Sept. 15 on Midvale Mine Road, also known as County Road 67, near Canary Road in Union Township.
According to a preliminary investigation, Jeffrey R. Cottrell, 64, of Dennison, was driving a 2003 Ford F-150 southwest on County Road 67 when his vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, striking a post and a tree.
Cottrell was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
Troopers said alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash. Cottrell was not wearing a seat belt.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Smith Ambulance, the Sherrodsville Fire Department, the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office, the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office and Chad’s Towing.
The crash remains under investigation.
