Report: Suspect fires at officers during high-speed chase in Jefferson-Harrison county area

Authorities responded to a reported high-speed chase Monday in the Jefferson-Harrison county area that included gunfire and a foot pursuit, according to local officials.

A deputy confirmed to WTRF 7News reporter Alex Taylor that the pursuit began near the Harrison County line along U.S. Route 250.

Michael Decker is wanted in connection with a shootout involving law enforcement in Harrison County and is considered armed and dangerous, according to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office.

During the chase, law enforcement deployed spike strips, which disabled the suspect’s vehicle. Officials said the suspect, identified as Michael Decker, allegedly fired shots at officers while fleeing.

The suspect later abandoned the vehicle and ran into a wooded area. Authorities were deploying drones to assist in the search.

In a social media post, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect was last seen along U.S. 22 near Hopedale after fleeing into the woods toward Giacobbi Road. The agency warned the suspect is considered armed and dangerous and urged the public not to approach.

Officials also said U.S. 22 has been shut down as law enforcement continues to search the area.

No injuries have been confirmed, and additional details about the suspect were not immediately available.
