Pedestrian struck by car in Stark County dies; organs donated

A pedestrian who was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle last week on Canton’s northwest side has died, authorities confirmed.

Canton police were called around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, to the 900 block of 25th Street NW for a reported traffic crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

According to police, a 2022 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling west on 25th Street NW when it struck Douglas Pryor, 40, of Alliance, who was crossing the street.

Pryor was transported by Canton Fire Department personnel to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit in critical condition.

Tammy Wilkes with the Stark County Coroner’s Office said Pryor was declared brain dead over the weekend on Dec. 20. Wilkes said Pryor donated his organs before passing away on Tuesday, Dec. 22.

The crash remains under investigation by the Canton Metro Crash Team.
