North Canton police are investigating a shooting that occurred Thursday afternoon in the 300 block of Rose Lane S.E., leaving one person injured.

According to the North Canton Police Department, officers were dispatched to the area at about 4:03 p.m. after a resident reported hearing a popping sound and seeing a vehicle enter a neighboring yard. Additional callers reported seeing individuals run from the area and one person appearing to be injured.

Police said officers arriving on scene observed two suspects fleeing on foot southbound toward Mississippi Street. Officers rendered aid to a gunshot victim, applying a tourniquet to a through-and-through gunshot wound to the victim’s right mid-thigh. The bleeding was reported to be significant but was successfully controlled.

Authorities said the victim was conscious and told officers his property had been taken. A witness described the suspects as two young Black males who were seen entering a gold-colored vehicle, possibly a Honda or Toyota, which then traveled southbound toward Canton via Main Street.

The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition at about 4:19 p.m.

Based on preliminary information gathered at the scene, investigators believe the individuals involved were known to one another. Police say there is no indication the shooting was random and that the incident appears to be isolated, with no ongoing threat to the community.

The investigation remains active. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the North Canton Police Department at 330-499-5911 or the anonymous tip line at 330-966-3633.
