The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a serious injury crash involving a commercial semi-truck and a horse-drawn buggy in Sugar Creek Township, according to a patrol news release.
The crash occurred about 4:09 p.m. Dec. 17 on U.S. Route 62 near milepost 3 in Stark County.
Troopers said a 2016 Kenworth commercial semi-truck, driven by Mark Collier, 44, of Canton, was traveling west on U.S. 62 when it struck a horse and buggy that was also traveling west. The buggy was operated by Eli Troyer, 36, of Beach City.
Troyer suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital. The horse pulling the buggy was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be contributing factors, the patrol said.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Ohio Department of Transportation, Brewster Police and Fire, and Wilmot EMS.
