A man suffered a graze wound during a shooting inside a Canton bar late Sunday afternoon, according to a police report.

Officers working an off-duty detail were called inside the Wave Bar at 1916 Cleveland Ave. NW after bar staff reported a possible fight.

Police said two men were arguing inside the bar before one of them was escorted outside. As an officer walked toward the exit, a single gunshot was heard from about 10 feet away. Patrons immediately rushed toward the exits.

An officer reported seeing a man run from the bar clutching his waistband, though no firearm was observed in his hands.

Police said the victim was standing behind the bar when the shot was fired. Witnesses told officers the man had been shot, and some also reported that a female may have been shot and left the scene. However, officers later determined the man behind the bar had what appeared to be a graze wound to the thigh.

Investigators located a spent 9mm shell casing and a live round on the ground in front of the bar.

A security guard told police the suspect attempted to flee during the altercation but was tackled. The guard said he retrieved a firearm from the man and later turned it over to bar staff, who placed it in a freezer in the kitchen until officers secured it.

Police recovered a Glock 45 9mm handgun wrapped in a white towel. Officers reported the magazine was missing, though one live round remained in the chamber. Detectives later determined the firearm had been reported stolen in West Virginia.

The incident was captured on the bar’s security cameras, according to police.

No additional information was immediately available.
