Canton police are investigating a homicide that occurred early Saturday morning, leaving a 35-year-old man dead and a suspect facing felony charges.
According to Canton Police Chief John Gabbard, officers were called to 2114 Market Ave. N., Apartment 3, at about 1:30 a.m. Oct. 4 for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found Christopher J. Smith, 35, unconscious on the living room floor with a gunshot wound to his hip.
Canton Fire Department medics transported Smith to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police identified the suspect as Corey L. Partee, 32, of Canton. Investigators said Partee left the scene before officers arrived. He has been charged with reckless homicide and tampering with evidence, both third-degree felonies.
Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
